Ulysses S. Grant

Ulysses S. Grant was a great man and critical to the growth of this nation. He was born in 1822. This man grew up to have a great sense of what it means to do the right thing. He was a General, the 18th president of the United States, and a good man. Some of the changes he made while a General and a President made such a difference that they are still important today. Without him, our country might have been something completely different than it is as of now. His role in American history is a large one. Here are some of his accomplishments.

He was a General in the Civil War, leading the winning side to its victory. Without him who knows which side would have won the war and today America could be a completely different thing than it is now. We might even still be separated rather than united as a single country that all follow the same laws. This contribution to history and America was a great one and one that continues to impact the country today as without him the war could have had a very different end.

He was also a great American president as well. He is one of the great people in history to fight against racism, even though he is not usually on the list of people who made this huge change from slavery to free African Americans possible. He fought against slavery and fought for the right for African Americans to be citizens of this country. He also stood up to the Ku Klux Klan and denounced them for being wrong. He even tried to prosecute its members in court, and he made a huge difference to this country by helping to integrate people and help others not to see color first.

He was also a big believer in keeping the peace. As president of this great but new country, he tried to keep everyone together. He helped keep everyone calm during times of tension such as times when wars with England or Spain were about to break out. He kept the peace and saved a lot of lives because of it. He also kept everyone together during the reconstruction of this country as one nation.

He was a great man, leader and president. He deserves to be credited for all that he did to keep this country safe and make it into what it is today. He made us a nation to be looked up to even way back then.
